December 20, 2006
The end of the year is fast approaching and my head spins when I look back at the events of 2006. So much got done! And 2006 has certainly been the year of branching out and working with other musicians. What wonderful experience!
I certainly ended my year in musical performance with a bang last week, playing two shows, with two different acts, in two different venues, in front of packed houses, complete with a photo shoot right before my first sound check. Talk about acrobatics!!!
My weekend in Toronto recording with Cindy Doire at the beginning of December was a great success! The minute I stepped into Cindy's home, I felt like I had known her for years! Cindy was the best hostess! I had a wonderful weekend filled with music, laughter, bilingualism, and political discussions (merci Simon!).
I was also pleased with the public debut of Le Café des Ames, a project I've started with Benoit Joanisse, at Le Petit Chicago in Hull. That night, I was also thrilled to have Aalya Ahmad back on fiddle with me after a long break!
This year, I have also been very fortunate to have such a stellar cast of talented musicians back me for live shows:
One thing that did take longer than expected this year is the release of my solo debut CD. People keep asking me about it because I had intended to have it ready for release in the summer, then the fall, then late fall. To answer all questions, I finally have two CD release parties booked for March and April of 2007: one in Ottawa and another in Hull, Quebec. I will give more details after I come back from Norway. Cindy Doire and I will be busy booking little tours in Quebec, Ontario, and hopefully Alberta to promote both of our CD releases, and promise to give more details about those dates as they become available.
In the interim, I do have a couple of shows booked to kick off 2007:
Houle and Sacha Gabriel
in with Glenn
Nuotio, opening for Glasgow's Camera
Obscura, and Essex
Happy holidays! Hope to see you in
the new year!
