One Month Later
I hope you're all well!
I'm doing well on this end, however, I'm finding that I was wrong thinking that things would slow down for me after the CD release show at the NAC on October 16! I have been busy!
There have been some nice surprises, as well. Just as I was about to step on stage for the CD release show, I was informed that 'Monsters' was nominated for the Best Folk CD for 2008 by the Ottawa XPress! After months of pouring my soul into that album, receiving this nomination was such a boost! The CD has also been picked up by the Ottawa Bluesfest for distribution in Ottawa independent music stores, and I'm in the midst of negotiating a cross-Canada distribution deal with another company!
For those of you who are thinking my CDs might make great stocking stuffers but know you won't make it out to Ottawa independent music stores, you can still purchase copies from CD Baby (http://cdbaby.com/cd/mariejoseehoule and http://cdbaby.com/cd/mariejoseehoule2), or directly from me at shows or by emailing marie-josee(at)uglysocks(dot)com.
If you missed the CD release show at the NAC, or if you want a bit of a reprise, I'm inviting you to join us on Saturday, December 6 at the Avant-Garde Bar where my wonderful backing band and I will spice up your vodkas with two sets of sultry and sassy sounds. And if vodka is not your thing, proprietor Alex will be happy to provide you with Baltica beer served in icy mugs to accompany anything on his food menu featuring all sorts of Russian culinary delights!

For all you hipsters out there, local cellist Ken Kanwisher will accompany me as I open for Regina's Libary Voices at Zaphod's on Friday, November 28! (Visit http://www.zaphodbeeblebrox.com/ for more information.)
As usual, my feet are desperately starting to itch. Far away lands beckon in the night, but there are so many great things that keep me calling Ottawa home for the time being (I'll just have to satisfy myself with a trip to Europe to play the Vienna Accordion Festival in March and more mini-tours within Canada) - namely my involvement with the Ottawa Chamber Theatre Company for whom I'm providing music for one more play this coming April.
Finally, I would like to send out a special thanks to all of you who voted in the Ottawa XPress Best Of poll and who come out to live shows! I really appreciate your support!
Take good care, and I hope to see you soon!
